After a long and prestigious career in his home country, Argentinean composer and keyboardist Juan “Pollo” Raffo releases his second solo album “Diatónicos Anónimos / Música de Flores Volumen 2” (Diatonics Anonymous / Music from Flores Volume 2) in the U.S.
Raffo’s original pieces combine the rhythms, the mood and the feeling of South American popular music with the improvisational spirit of jazz and the compositional procedures of classical music, particularly contrapuntal writing. In addition, the music conveys strong visual images, acting as a soundtrack for the movie in the listener’s mind. The line-up of the band includes Juan “Pollo” Raffo on keyboards, Martín Rur on saxophones and clarinet, Pablo Martín on basses, Rodrigo Genni on drums and Beto Merino on percussion, plus several guests musicians. The ensemble combination of the album ranges from trios to a twenty-five-piece chamber orchestra. RAFFO, diatónicos Anónimos:
In an Ideal world, this album would be hailed as an event. Juan ""Pollo"" Raffo adds a page of glory in Argentina instrumental music with his new work.
At the head of his group, Raffo displayed unclassifiable music with an outstanding level of invention in which the complexity is not incompatible with humor.
(Claudio Kleiman, Rolling Stone magazine, Buenos Aires)
